Welcome
Founded in 1960 by the late Colonel M.C. Sifton, the Toronto Polo Club is one of North America’s largest polo clubs. With an active membership of over 70 playing members, plus a strong group of social members, there is much activity at the club year round. Polo is played almost twelve months of the year, the indoor polo season runs from October until April, and the outdoor season from May until September.
Polo activities, field locations, and game times change on a daily basis at the Toronto Polo Club. The Club has a 24 hour polo hotline that is constantly updated to keep members, guests, and general public informed of what’s going on. The Polo Hotline number is: 905-888-POLO (7656)
Club policies & practices regarding horse welfare
The Toronto Polo Club does not condone or permit the use of illegal drugs on
horses that play at the Toronto Polo Club. The Toronto Polo Club has a
tradition of promoting equine health and safety, and has an equine welfare committee that is responsible for developing appropriate policies that will ensure the safety and well-being of polo horses at the Toronto Polo Club.
In light of the horse tragedy that took place in Wellington, Florida on April 19, the United States Polo Association (U.S.P.A.) has put together a review committee to examine equine safety issues in polo, including veterinarians, players, owners and polo leaders. The U.S.P.A. review
committee will examine the policies and practices of other equestrian organizations, as well as examine existing protections for horses and possible improvements, including the establishment of a prohibited substance policy. The Toronto Polo Club is a registered club with the U.S.P.A., as well as the Canadian Polo Association, and therefore will adopt any new policies that may come from the recommendation of the U.S.P.A.’s review committee or any policies recommended by the Canadian Polo Association.
Learn to play
Do you want a new and exciting experience? Why not try a sport that offers all of the speed and skill of a hockey game, combined with the thrill of riding a horse. Polo has often been called “hockey on horseback”, and not only is it one of the most glamorous sports, but also one of the most challenging and exhilarating team sports around. Learning to play is not as difficult as you may think. To find out more please click on learn to play.
